Long Island Fathers’ Rights & Child Custody

The Fathers’ Rights Association of New York State

Child custody is probably the most important and the most difficult issue that a father will face in the event of a divorce or separation agreement. In the past, fathers’ rights were nonexistent and mothers generally got full custody of children, even in cases where the father could have provided a safer and more loving home environment. Today, New York courts recognize that child custody decisions must be made based upon the best interests of the child. However, fathers’ rights attorneys are still necessary to help ensure that a father is given the same consideration as the mother in child custody and visitation matters.

The Fathers’ Rights Association of New York State is a not-for-profit organization whose members are committed to advocating fathers’ rights in conjunction with child custody matters throughout Long Island and the surrounding areas in New York State. This includes issues in regards to child custody, child support, visitation, maintenance or paternity. We recommend that you consult a family lawyer immediately in order to help ensure that your rights as a father are protected in the face of your custody dispute or visitation matter.

Your child custody arrangement should be set up in such a way that it is in the best interests of your child, and this does not always occur if a father does not have a skilled and aggressive family lawyer on his side. All too often we see sole custody awarded to the mother in the case of a divorce in Long Island, New York. Fathers should be considered in custody and visitation matters, as a father greatly enriches the life of his children in his own way. Your child’s happiness and wellbeing will hinge upon the outcome of your child custody matter, and thus it is important to take no chances in fighting to achieve the outcome you are hoping for.
